What is Analog signal ?

Analog signal is the signal which represents the information in the form of continuous form i.e. in the time varying form in which values are changing per instant of time. Example :- Transistor, Clinical thermometer, temperature, pressure , flow measurements etc.

Advantage of Analog signals :-

1 . Analog Signal Uses less bandwidth More accurate Flexibility with bandwidth.

2 . Easy to handle not expensive, over-sensitive routings.

3. Great lifespan and, ambient weather dependencies are low.

Disadvantages of Analog Signals :-

1. These signals get distorted due to the components used to relay these signals such as amplifiers etc.

  1. Attenuation of the signal takes place during transmission and it becomes weak.
  2. These signals have inherent noise due to thermal motion of electrons.

Digital Signals ?

Digital Signal is the signal in which information is represented by the discrete values or in the digital form. Digital signal includes information in the form of 0 and “”1” . Example :- Electronic calculator , Electronic voting machine , An Electronic counter , valve feedback, Motor Start, Trip, etc.

Advantages Of Digital Signals:-

  1. Digital systems are easier to design.

2. Information can be stored very easily.

  1. Accuracy and precision is greater in digital system.
  2. Operation of the digital system can be programmed by a set of stored instructions.

5. More digital circuitry can be fabricated on IC chip as compared to analog circuit.

6. Digital circuits are less effected by noise.

  1. Digital systems and equipments are easier to use primarily becuase direct display of data is convenient to read .

Disadvantages Of Digital Signals:-

1 . Digital system require large bandwidth .

2 . Adds to the complexity and cost of the system Conversion from Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog form also requires extra time.

3 . Digital signal are more complex.
